WINTER WEATHER PRECAUTIONS

We all need to be aware of the problems which can occur during the cold weather; frost damage being one of the biggest risks.  A burst pipe can cause significant damage to your home and contents and repairs can be costly and may include digging up floors and gardens.

If your property is vacant, or you are going away for a few days, we recommend a few simple precautions to prevent burst pipes including:

If you have tanks or pipes in the roof space, open the loft hatch to allow warm air to circulate

Insulate water tanks and lag pipes making sure there are no gaps at bends or valves

Leave the central heating on low

Fix dripping taps - even a small trickle can result in a frozen pipe

Make sure you know where the internal stopcock is and check it can be turned off easily in an emergency

Ensure that the boiler has been serviced

If the property is going to be unoccupied for long periods, consider employing a professional to turn off the water supply and drain down the central heating

This article is meant to be just general advice as characteristics of individual properties can be slightly different.  If you are unsure how to take appropriate measures to protect your property, please do not hesitate to contact us at Belton Duffey.
